District staff presented a Career Technical Education update that laid out elementary awareness, middle-school exploration and high-school specialization, described nine high-school pathways and emphasized dual enrollment and early-college alignment with Cuesta College.
"We have about 1,000 seats being taken by students in our CTE pathways," the presenter said, citing recent pathway additions such as floral design and a developing patient-care program. Staff connected program choices to local labor-market analysis and listed emerging industries (aerospace, clean tech, precision manufacturing) cited by county labor-market research.
Trustees asked detailed questions about pathway selection (e.g., why floral design) and whether LREBG or other funds could support hands-on programs; staff advised funding eligibility depends on identified unduplicated-pupil needs and the specific allowable uses of each funding source. Board members also discussed structural barriers to inter-district collaboration and the potential role of Cuesta College and early-college programs in expanding opportunities.
The board then reviewed draft strategic-plan vision and mission options. Trustees generally gravitated toward two draft options (noted in the meeting as options 1 and 3), discussed minor wording and comma/or choices and agreed to solicit two trustee representatives for a community-inclusive strategic-planning task force that will meet over several months.
