Sachem board accepts May 19, 2026 budget vote, confirms three winners in school board election

The Board of Education of the Sachem Central School District voted Tuesday to accept and certify the results of the May 19, 2026 district budget vote and related propositions, and announced the winners of the board of trustees election.

"Be it resolved that the Board of Education of the Sachem Central School District hereby accepts, approves, and declares the 05/19/2026 budget vote results as follows," the Chair read aloud before reporting the tallies, a formal step the board took to record and accept the election outcomes.

The district reported 2,457 total votes on Proposition 1, the budget measure, with 1,633 in favor and 824 opposed. For Proposition 2, a measure concerning the Lake Ronkonkoma Historical Society, totals were 2,594 votes: 1,375 yes and 1,219 no. The board also announced results for the Board of Education election: Rob Scabo received 1,515 votes; Matthew Baumann received 1,487 votes; and Paul Sapienza received 1,415 votes. The Chair congratulated the three successful candidates and then called for a vote to accept the resolution certifying those results; the motion carried.

Earlier in the meeting the board returned from executive session by a motion recorded on the transcript, and at the conclusion of business members moved to adjourn; both procedural motions were seconded and passed without further comment. The meeting ended shortly after the board approved the certification of the election and vote tallies.
