Executive Officer Scott Pease told the Board that recruitment is underway across several positions: a top candidate has been identified for an Attorney I post pending HR approval; a top candidate for Supervisor I will have a packet submitted to HR by the end of the week; the Analyst I position has closed with about 670 applicants; and ALJ applications have been released with interviews being coordinated. Pease also reported a planned meeting with Federal OSHA on May 12 to discuss unspecified items.
Presiding Administrative Law Judge Sam E. Lucas updated the Board on settlement hearings and answered questions regarding settlement procedures; Lucas also noted that ALJ Kevin Reedy has officially retired from the Office. Chief Counsel Aaron Jackson provided a litigation update listing active case deadlines: the Board is preparing responses and opposition briefs in several matters with hearings or filings in late May (including Baldi/Arana (1568252), Drill Tech Drilling & Shoring, Inc. (1420923), Waterproofing and Roofing Solutions (1690885), Employbridge Holding Company (1499137), and oral argument scheduled in The Geo Group (1609228)).
The Board reviewed a long list of matters pending reconsideration and settlement orders from Administrative Law Judges; minutes indicate the Legal Unit will continue preparing filings and responses and that many matters remain subject to further legal action or court review.
The closed session concluded at 10:52 a.m., the public meeting reconvened and the full meeting adjourned at 10:53 a.m.
