Hinsdale staff recommends Flood Brothers for residential waste contract; company outlines November transition

At the May 19 Hinsdale board meeting, Trustee Burns presented staff’s recommendation to award a three-year contract for residential waste, recycling and landscape-waste collection to Flood Brothers of Oak Brook Terrace following a competitive RFP process and interviews with finalists.

"Their proposal would cost roughly 2% less than Republic's over the 3 year contract life while offering service levels identical to Republic's," Trustee Burns said, summarizing staff’s evaluation. Flood Brothers CEO Kevin Flood introduced the company and said new containers and trucks will be provided, with a transition target of November 1–2. "We're pretty confident that we'll pick you up on November 1, and we're not gonna miss anything," Flood said.

Flood Brothers outlined a resident communication plan: staged cart deliveries in late October, an online Hinsdale-dedicated webpage, mailed informational packets and a local call center. Company and staff agreed pickup days will remain the same, though early routing times may shift during startup. Trustees stressed the importance of clear, ongoing communication to prevent missed pickups during the vendor swap.

The item was discussed as a potential second-read/consent item; trustees later combined consent items and voted to approve consent agenda items in the meeting’s consent roll call. The board asked staff to continue transition planning with Flood Brothers and to return any required implementation details prior to contract execution.

What to watch: Residents should expect cart exchange and delivery communications roughly 4–6 weeks before the transition date and a village web and mailed outreach program to guide signups and cart-selection.
