Board reviews proposed three-year trash contract with Flood Brothers, transition planned for November

Trustee Burns presented staff's recommendation to award a three-year contract for residential solid waste, recycling and landscape-waste collection to Flood Brothers of Oak Brook Terrace after a competitive RFP and interviews.

Kevin Flood, CEO of Flood Brothers, said the company’s proposal would cost roughly 2% less than the incumbent over the three‑year contract life while offering comparable service levels and a local customer‑service center. "We're pretty confident that we'll pick you up on November 1, and we're not gonna miss anything," Flood said, adding that Flood Brothers would handle account setup and cart distribution to limit staff burdens.

Michael Flood (director of sales) outlined the transition logistics: residents would receive mailed packets and be able to select cart sizes online; delivery of carts is planned for the second‑to‑last week of October so residents will have containers in hand for the first Flood Brothers pickup scheduled for November 2. Flood Brothers also told trustees that pickup days will remain unchanged, though initial routing times may shift as crews settle into new routes.

Trustees asked practical questions about bin durability, wildlife issues and communication, and staff emphasized that Flood Brothers had offered to host a Hinsdale‑specific web page and mailings to educate residents ahead of the transition. The item was set for a second read; no final award was voted on May 19.
