Bound Brook honors students of the month and teachers of the year

At its May meeting the Bound Brook Board of Education recognized students of the month across district schools and named teachers and educational-service professionals of the year, including Claudia Gudiel, Jennifer Bates, Maddie Reese, Mr. Melasurgo, Talia Carrera, Brianne DeBetta, Mike Ratliff, Pierre Abbs and Kristen Deportier.
The Bound Brook Board of Education began its May meeting by recognizing students of the month from pre-K through high school and by honoring teachers and educational-service professionals across the district.
Presenters called students to the stage school-by-school: Lamont students of the month included Leslie Guattara (pre-K), Aria Davis (kindergarten) and Jason Del Aquila (first grade). Lafayette and Smalley schools and Community Middle School and Bound Brook High School likewise announced monthly student honorees with brief notes on favorite subjects, hobbies and future ambitions.
The board and school leaders then recognized educators of the year and educational-service professionals. Honorees named in the public meeting included Claudia Gudiel (educational service professional, Lamont Annex), Jennifer Bates (Lamont teacher of the year), Maddie Reese (Lafayette educator of the year), Mr. Melasurgo (Smalley educator of the year), Talia Carrera (Smalley educational service professional of the year), Brianne DeBetta (CMS educational specialist of the year), Mike Ratliff (CMS teacher of the year), Pierre Abbs (governor's educator of the year, high school) and Kristen Deportier (high school educational specialist of the year). Speakers praised honorees for bilingual instruction, counseling, long service to the community, coaching, and student-centered practices.
The board invited students and educators to the front of the auditorium for group photographs and publicly thanked staff and families for their work during the school year.
The recognitions were ceremonial; no formal board votes were required for the announcements recorded in the meeting transcript.
