Fire chief explains annual ESO software renewal, council takes first reading

At the May 18 meeting the fire chief presented O-17-26, a first reading to renew the fire department's reporting and EMS software contract with ESO Solutions Inc.
The chief explained why the department uses ESO: the platform supports fire and EMS reports, inspections and scheduling in a single system and uses a format compatible with the hospital partner that accesses EMS data for quality assurance. He said migrating data between vendors is time-consuming — recalling a prior migration took about four months — so the department is reluctant to rebid annually. "We went with ESO ... they offer a really nice platform," he said, and noted the annual fee is about $9,000 (the EMS portion is still covered by University Hospital).
Council members asked whether multiyear pricing was available; the chief said the vendor's structure is annual but modules can be purchased and that timing of initial purchases affects price. The ordinance was given a first reading; no final adoption occurred.
