The City of Tomball approved an asset purchase agreement on May 18 to take ownership of a 6‑inch natural gas line originally installed by CenterPoint Energy.
Drew (speaker 9) told council the purchase covers a section of line along Boudreaux Avenue between Shaw and Rocky; Lovett Industries — a developer at the Grand Parkway area — will pay for the acquisition and immediately reimburse the city under a separate agreement. The transaction is structured so the city takes legal ownership (meeting Railroad Commission expectations), but Lovett will fund the purchase and construction necessary to tie the line into the city’s existing distribution system.
Staff said taking ownership allows Tomball to serve the Grand Parkway Town Center and the Lovett development without additional duplicative infrastructure. Drew said no city funds will be expended up front; the city will request reimbursement from Lovett once the agreement is executed.
Council approved the asset purchase unanimously in a verbal roll call.
