Board approves minutes, personnel, education, policy and finance items; authorizes executive session

The Middlesex Board of Education on May 20 moved and approved a package of routine action items and later voted to enter executive session to discuss attorney-client privileged matters, a confidential student matter and a confidential personnel matter.

Motions approved by the board during the meeting included:

- Approval of prior meeting minutes (motion carried; at least one recusal and one abstention were recorded during the roll call).

- Personnel action items (9.1–9.13), recommended by the superintendent and approved by roll call.

- Education action items (11.1–11.21), recommended by the education committee and approved by roll call.

- Policy action items (12.01–12.04), recommended by the superintendent and approved; one abstention was recorded during the vote.

- Facilities and finance action items (14.01–14.13); the finance report included discussion of a capital-generator project and an agenda item to authorize use of part of a contractor allowance to cover additional costs.

The meeting record shows the board then adopted a resolution to meet in executive (closed) session to address attorney-client privileged matters, a confidential personnel matter and a confidential student matter and stated it would not take action after the executive session.

The board did not take public action on the generator allowance at the time of the public comment; business office staff explained the bills list and the difference between an invoice payment and the separate agenda request to use part of a contract allowance.
