West Irondequoit board re-elects John Veil; Gary Adams joins as new member

John Veil, reelected to the West Irondequoit Central School District Board of Education, said the May interview marked his eighth election and brought his service to about 19 years. "My eighth election, so I just completing 19 years," Veil said, adding that he first joined the board in 2007 when he filled the remainder of the late Susan Jure’s term of "1 year, 46 days."

Veil said he has deep family ties to the district: he attended school there; his children attended; his wife and daughter both teach in the district. "It's a great district, and it's a way for me to give back to the community," he said. When asked what has stayed the same, Veil pointed to the district’s "focus on the child" and continued community support for budgets that sustain programs and support systems students need.

Gary Adams, introduced as a newly elected board member, said family commitment motivated his run. "I got 4 kids in the school district and I'm invested in the community," Adams said. He described West Irondequoit as a "close knit community" where "everyone supports each other," and said he hopes to contribute to the district’s tradition.

On district facilities and improvements, Adams said ongoing capital investments are intended to keep buildings running and provide students with safe, comfortable learning environments. "A lot of capital investments, keeping the buildings running. The kids learn best in a safe environment that they could feel comfortable in," he said.

The interview was an occasion to introduce both the returning and new board members and to emphasize continuity and local support for student-centered programs. The segment concluded with brief thanks from the participants.
