The Simsbury Water Pollution Control Authority on May 14 approved staff recommendations to grant sewer‑use relief to two elderly residents.
Tom Roy, Simsbury’s town engineer, told the Authority that three residents over age 65 applied for the annual relief fund. He said staff recommends a 20% discount for Maryann Klein and a 50% discount for Joyce Carlos and that Sharon Wilson does not qualify based on the income reported to the assessor’s office. "We had three people who applied for our sewer relief fund based upon their financial status and being over the age of 65," Roy said, summarizing the review and the recommended outcomes.
Board members moved to approve the applications "as recommended by staff," and the motion carried unanimously.
The decision follows the Authority’s established policy for once‑a‑year consideration of applications and, according to Roy, serves as a yearly check on take‑up and program effectiveness. The Authority did not change the eligibility formula at the meeting.
Next steps: staff will implement the approved discounts in accordance with the Authority’s procedures and the town’s billing processes.
