Committee accepts $5,000 gift for Honolulu Ocean Safety junior guard program

Kurt Lager, chief of Ocean Safety, told the committee the money—donated by Pacific Harley‑Davidson on behalf of Castiglione Caseria—will support the junior guard program by purchasing equipment and shirts and helping cover program costs. “We're very happy and grateful to have this gift of $5,000,” Lager said, and described the program as free to the community.
Lager said the junior guard program runs at eight locations and serves about 850 to 900 children each year; he noted most sites filled in less than a day, with remaining sites filling over the next few days. Council Member Okimoto asked for enrollment and location details; Lager responded that the program serves roughly 850–900 keiki across eight sites.
The committee recorded no in‑person or remote public testimony on the donation. After the presentation and a short question period, the chair recommended the resolution be reported out for adoption and, hearing no objections, ordered it reported.
The measure will move to the full City Council for formal acceptance of the gift.
