Council approves moving forward on downtown stage rebuild; bid $92,450

City administrator Andrea (S10) and Director of Public Works Wayland (S8) presented updated engineered plans and a contractor bid to rebuild the downtown community stage that was lost in a storm last year. Staff said an engineering firm produced more detailed plans after initial bids failed and that the bid received for the new, engineered steel-framed stage was $92,450.
Andrea said the city has roughly $39,500 in remaining insurance proceeds; to proceed staff proposed using local option sales tax to cover the remaining cost. Wayland described the design as a steel skeleton bolted together with a standing-seam metal roof, gussets and bracing, and said that if the council decided promptly a contractor could have the stage completed by Labor Day.
Council moved to proceed with bringing a formal resolution to accept the bid and authorize construction; the motion passed on roll call. Staff will return with the formal resolution and contract documents for council action.
