Board approves contracts, personnel actions and hears math curriculum update

The Elyria City Schools board approved a slate of contracts, personnel renewals and recalls and received an update on a new math curriculum.
Superintendent Anne Schloss read typical year‑end contracts and service agreements for the coming school year, including student services agreements (notably with Phoenix Learning Center LLC and Murray Ridge/Lorain County Board of DD), transportation agreements and a one‑year food-services contract with Aramark. The board moved, seconded and approved the superintendent’s recommended contracts on roll call.
The superintendent also presented numerous personnel recommendations: renewals of certified and classified contracts, termination of limited contracts (an annual procedural step), approval of substitute and supplemental contracts, recall of staff from a reduction‑in‑force list (the superintendent said 11 certified employees have been recalled), approval of stipends for math and Envision training, and a half‑day stipend for specific training days. The board approved those personnel actions on roll call.
Academic Services staff member Courtney described the district’s decision process for a renewed math focus and selection of the Amplify curriculum. She said the district used a diverse review team of staff across grade levels and emphasized benchmarking and progress-monitoring tools in the new materials; teachers will receive summer training and materials ahead of fall instruction.
The board acknowledged retirements, including longtime custodial employee Bruce Wylen, and approved training stipends funded through grants to support summer learning programs and an ELL transition camp at Elyria High School.
The meeting closed after routine announcements and adjournment.
