The Athens-Clarke County Commission voted unanimously April 7 to designate the Fairhaven Tuberculosis Sanitarium site at 293 Gran Allen Drive as a local historic landmark and to incorporate the county’s Design Guidelines for Historic Districts and Landmark Properties by reference.
The ordinance (presented by title) lists the landmark boundary, identifies the property on the county tax maps, notes that the Unified Government is the current owner, and requires a certificate of appropriateness from the Historic Preservation Commission prior to any material change in the appearance of the designated property. The design guidelines adopted December 6, 2011 and reformatted in 2024 are incorporated by reference and made available in the Planning Department for public inspection.
Commissioner Wright moved adoption and Commissioner Link seconded; there was no public input and the motion passed unanimously.
