County manager reports fiber rollout, LMIG and sewer grant progress; cemetery, events and ambulance fees update

County Manager Thomas Weaver gave a broad operations and infrastructure update at a June 24 work session, reporting progress on broadband, grants, ambulance billing and public‑works projects.
Weaver said Charter, Spectrum and Bingham construction are installing fiber throughout Chattahoochee County with a projected mid‑December service launch and an estimated coverage near 90 percent. "They project to be in service mid‑December. There will be locates everywhere, hopefully it will reach a good majority of the county," Weaver said, adding the route will come through Fort Moore and extend along several county roads.
Weaver also reported the county received a $155,000 Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) payment and has applied for a supplemental, bringing the combined amount close to $355,000. He said the sewer‑grant application has been completed and accepted, and the cemetery project is nearing completion pending hydroseeding. Weaver added the county has begun collecting ambulance fees.
Department heads provided routine updates: Teri Hancock confirmed the Consumer Confidence Report was submitted and drying beds at Wells 2 and 3 are complete; Mordie Askew outlined upcoming recreation events including a back‑to‑school party; Samantha Hedgecoke said the rabies clinic and a car show had strong turnout; and Lou Beck of Public Works said he expects to finish cemetery hydroseeding and noted ongoing issues verifying eligibility for back‑door pickup under current waste contracts.
Commissioners asked staff to prepare items for the July 2 regular meeting (budget amendments, solid‑waste award, conditional use permit) where votes will be taken if required.
