The Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County adopted a resolution on June 4 authorizing the chairman to execute a Fire Tower Agreement with the Georgia Forestry Commission.
Under the agreement the county's payment to the Georgia Forestry Commission for the contract period shall not exceed $4,738.58. The agreement becomes effective July 1, 2024, and remains in effect through June 30, 2025. The Forestry Commission will provide a temporary fire‑tower operator assigned to the county unit, submit documentation of assistance periodically, and coordinate operations. The Commission approved the agreement by motion (motion by Commissioner Timothy Biddle; second by Commissioner Jason Frost) with a unanimous vote.
The agreement notes either party may terminate with 30 days' written notice. County Manager Thomas Weaver and Chairman Charles Coffey said the arrangement formalizes a cooperative fire‑detection service for the county.
