Spooner board approves personnel moves, donations, RFP and routine business

The Spooner Area School District Board of Education approved a range of routine but consequential items, including personnel changes, donations, open-enrollment decisions, contracts and procurement.
Personnel and hires: the board accepted several resignations (including Cheryl Ring, family and consumer education teacher, and multiple extracurricular coaches) and approved hires for Haley Welsh as speech and language pathologist and Cara Peck as an early childhood special education teacher.
Donations and scholarships: board members recognized 37 graduating seniors who received scholarships totaling $108,374 (local scholarships $92,624; state awards $15,750) and accepted a list of donations and in-kind gifts reported by district staff. Donors included local businesses and programs; items ranged from monetary gifts to equipment valued at $841.98.
Open enrollment: district staff reported 12 inbound open-enrollment applications for 2026–27, one of which was deleted because the district could not accommodate a special-education need; the board approved 11 nonresident and 25 resident open-enrollment applications.
Contracts and procurement: the board approved awarding the district HVAC maintenance contract to JMAR and approved purchasing elementary tables based on the lower of two quotes after confirming supplier quality and capacity. The board also approved continuation of the 4K aid position and approved several Neola policy readings.
