Trustees voted May 18 to delegate authority to the superintendent to finalize and execute a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $636,889 for a portable package at Lakeview High School intended to provide temporary classrooms, restroom suites and spaces for ROTC and athletics while renovation work proceeds.
Dr. Brandon explained the portables will allow the district to begin remodeling work sooner by relocating ROTC and athletics functions to temporary units and by moving owned portables from Fannin to Lakeview. The GMP includes site work (sidewalks, ramps, water, sewer, electrical and Internet) and the cost of renting additional portables where needed.
Trustees asked about the project schedule; staff said dirt work could start shortly after July 4 and that the portables are intended to be in place for the August school year start. The board passed a motion to delegate authority to finalize the GMP, with the administration stating the cost is expected to remain under the total Lakeview construction budget.
The vote was 5'00 in favor.
