The Bullitt County Board of Education voted to approve a tentative fiscal year 2027 budget of $220,670,750.43 and a package of pay-scale and personnel changes at its regular meeting.
Miss Lewis, presenting the budget, told trustees the tentative budget includes departmental reductions from the draft, preserves key instructional positions and adds "step 28" to the salary schedule. "The total amount of the tentative budget is $220,670,750.43," she said. The board approved the tentative budget after a motion by Miss Veil and a second from Mister Harshfield; the vote was recorded as 5-0.
Board members also approved districtwide pay-scale updates. Miss Lewis summarized the pay-scale packet and said the districtwide base pay increase is 3% with additional schedule adjustments and new extra-duty stipends. Trustees voted 5-0 to adopt the FY2027 pay scales.
Trustees approved several personnel- and safety-related items that the administration said are included in the budget or job packet. Those actions included creation of a job description for a Bullitt County Public Schools chief of police and two school resource officer positions; elevation of the Title IX compliance coordinator to a director-level role (Director of Organizational Compliance and Title IX); and approval of a director of Early Childhood and Specialized Learning plus a school counselor position tied to that program. Sarah Smith, who presented the SRO and chief job-description request, said the district will continue partnerships with local law enforcement while creating an internal police department infrastructure.
The board also approved operational items tied to finance and school operations: a capital funds allocation request noting $1,530,806.87 available in capital funds with $500,000 earmarked for school bus purchases and property insurance; principals' combined school activity budgets for FY2027; and several staffing requests funded from school nutrition and other funds.
During consideration of the budget and staffing items, trustees and speakers praised financial stewardship. One trustee commended the administration: "You guys really do an awesome job," and asked for the contingency percentage (reported as 4.4%). The superintendent, Dr. Bacon, and finance staff were thanked for transparency during board discussion.
