County opens 30‑day nomination window to name state veterans nursing home

The nomination portal opens midnight March 25 at collier.gov; mailed nominations must be postmarked by April 23. The selected name will be announced at the governor's cabinet meeting in June and unveiled at a planned groundbreaking targeted for summer.
Mullins read short biographical sketches of the 13 eligible recipients and encouraged veterans groups and other organizations to submit letters explaining their nominations. Staff answered commissioner questions about the nomination process and confirmed a state official will make the final selection based on the Department of Veterans' Affairs' procedures.
