Davis County approves $6 million for Davis–Salt Lake Community Connector project

The Davis County Commission voted May 19 to approve a $6,000,000 interlocal reimbursement agreement with the Utah Transit Authority to support the Davis–Salt Lake Community Connector, an enhanced bus route connecting Farmington and the Research Park/University of Utah.
Kent Anderson, the county’s community and economic development presenter, said the project was submitted last year and placed on an approved list of regional projects. "They're still actually applying for federal funds on this and so they're waiting for an announcement of that," Anderson said, adding that the county's third-quarter transportation funds are the source of the local reimbursement.
The agreement in the packet lists a payable of $6,000,000 with a term beginning 05/19/2026 and ending 06/30/2029. Commissioners noted the county may also explore additional local contributions from preservation funds pending the federal funding decision.
The measure was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. No formal dissent was recorded on the motion.
Why it matters: the connector would provide enhanced bus service along a corridor between Farmington and major employment and research hubs, potentially improving regional transit access for commuters and students. The approved county reimbursement does not by itself guarantee federal matching funds, and county officials said final project timing depends on forthcoming federal announcements.
The commission’s action was procedural approval of the interlocal agreement; the UTA application for federal funding remains outstanding and the project schedule is contingent on that award.
