Simi Valley Unified names three elementary principals; student board reps deliver year‑end reports

The Simi Valley Unified School District board on Tuesday confirmed three elementary principal appointments and heard year‑end reports from the district's student board representatives.
The board introduced Mary Tremonti as principal of Santa Susana Elementary, Kendra Spates as Sycamore Elementary's new principal and Shanda Weaver as the incoming principal at Knowles Elementary. Trustees said they accepted the district's recommendations and recorded the associated motions and roll‑call votes.
Mary Tremonti, who joins Santa Susana after two years as an assistant principal at Simi Valley High School and more than two decades of elementary teaching experience, thanked trustees and said she was honored to step into the role. "It is truly an honor and a privilege to step into this role and I do so with gratitude, humility, and excitement," Tremonti said, adding she aims to "grow alongside" staff, students and families.
Kendra Spates, introduced by the superintendent as a former Knowles Elementary principal and program specialist, said she looks forward to returning to Sycamore and to "building strong authentic relationships" with staff and families. Shanda Weaver, who has served as principal at Valley View Middle School and earlier at Knowles, told the board her priority is a smooth transition while finishing the school year at her current site.
The board recorded the related personnel actions as part of its consent and action calendar; motions and seconds were noted in the meeting transcript and roll‑call votes were taken where required.
Trustees also recognized student board representatives from several high schools who gave brief annual reports. Apollo High's Karima Flores highlighted academic and extracurricular achievements and congratulated student award recipients. Other student representatives — including Nicole Alvarez of Monte Vista, Ivy Rossell of Royal High, Gracie Kim of Santa Susana High and Angelina Dang of Simi Valley High — described campus events, leadership initiatives and scholarship and program successes.
The presentations included recognition of Royal High's culinary team, which the board honored for winning the Cook Around the World competition. District officials noted that Measure X bond funding supported some CTE program facilities that help these programs thrive.
The board moved on after unanimous and recorded approvals of the personnel and consent items; trustees acknowledged the incoming principals and the students for their year‑end reports.
