Why it matters: district staff said NextPath will centralize academic, health and behavior records so teachers and leadership can spot deficits and document interventions more quickly. Staff described configuration options to limit who can see which students’ records and said administrators will work with the vendor to set privacy parameters.
What the board approved: Presenter (S1) moved to approve the contract and Chair (S4) seconded; the motion carried by voice vote. Board discussion reviewed access controls (teachers vs. non-instructional staff), retention questions tied to student records, and an implementation timeline staff estimated would require about four years to fully populate and refine.
Board members asked how data access is scoped. Presenter (S1) said access can be parameterized by grade level and role: "you can set parameters... so sixth grade teachers can see sixth grade students," and administrators can set different access for non-teaching staff. She also said the system can include health history from Infinite Campus where appropriate and that uploaded files (for example, restorative-practice documentation) can be attached to student records.
Costs and timeline: staff said year one carries setup and training fees, with recurring fees thereafter determined by student counts; staff described the first year as more expensive because of initial training and dataset building. Presenter (S1) estimated it would take several years to build a complete archive that staff can reliably use for special-education determinations and progress monitoring.
Next steps: with the contract approved, district staff will begin vendor training with administrators in June and July and phase teacher training the following school year, adjusting privacy and reporting settings as needed.
