Panel advances bill to enable Union County renewable natural gas project from landfill gas (SB556)

A presenter introduced by the chair as Mr. Covington of Packlet Milliken described Senate Bill 556 as enabling a renewable natural gas project in Union County that converts landfill gas into pipeline-quality fuel and extends an interstate gas line by roughly 8 to 10 miles. "This bill will make it possible for a renewable natural gas project to go forward in Union County for turning landfill gas into actual, renewable natural gas that can be put into the gas line," he said.
A committee member asked whether the project site was the landfill that previously caught fire and burned for an extended time. Covington said he was not aware of that and identified the project as located in Cross Anchor, just south of the Spartanburg line.
The subcommittee voted to give SB556 a favorable report, 5–0, advancing the bill to the full committee.
