Lynn County commissioners approve LCAD appointment, fireworks ban and jury plan; auditor says county "in good shape"

Lynn County Commissioners met Dec. 5, 2025, in the County Courthouse in Tahoka and unanimously approved several routine actions after hearing an audit and receiving a jail report.
Tyler Canady of BSGM LLP presented the fiscal year 2024/25 audit and said, based on the records he reviewed, "Lynn County is in good shape," offering no material concerns in his report.
The court approved the appointment of Michael Fangman to the LCAD Board for a two-year term. Judge Mike Braddock announced Fangman's willingness to serve; Commissioner Matt Woodley moved to accept the appointment and Commissioner Larry Durham seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The court also voted to prohibit certain fireworks from Dec. 20, 2025, through Jan. 1, 2026. Judge Braddock said the county's enforceable scope is limited and noted that "the only fireworks that can be prohibited are the fireworks with fins and sticks." Commissioner John Hawthorne moved to adopt the restriction, Commissioner Woodley seconded, and the motion carried on a unanimous vote.
Courtney Odom, the district clerk, briefed the court on the Jury Selection Plan and said she must have a signed designation confirming that the commissioners have appointed her as the county's jury selector. Commissioner Larry Durham moved to approve the plan, Commissioner Tate Gass seconded, and the court approved it unanimously.
County Treasurer Amy Schuknecht reported there were no budget amendments and that no county finance report was presented at this session. County Clerk Karen Rendon reported there were no bonds to approve.
Martin Rosas, jail administrator, provided the jail population tally: 24 inmates from Lynn County, 2 from Lubbock, 8 from Potter County and 5 from Dawson County, for a total of 39 in custody.
Treasurer Schuknecht presented claims and payroll for payment; Commissioner Durham moved to pay the bills, Commissioner Gass seconded, and the court unanimously approved payment.
The court took no other informational items and adjourned at 9:56 a.m. after a unanimous motion to end the meeting.
The court did not set a date for the next meeting during the session.
