Sheriff reports jail population; county staff say GovPay failed to remit card payments totaling $2,795.15

Sheriff Mason reported to the Lynn County Commissioners Court on Dec. 22 that 38 people were in the county jail: 23 from Lynn County, two from Lubbock, eight from Potter and five from Dawson.
Later in the meeting, county staff member Kathy Grant told the court that GovPay, the county's credit-card processor, had not remitted transactions after Dec. 2, 2025. Grant said she had spoken with at least five of 14 customers who made transactions after Dec. 2 and that bank records show the money was withdrawn from customers' accounts. She said GovPay told her the error was not on their end; Grant said she will file a claim with GovPay's insurance for missing charges totaling $2,795.15 for December and plans to switch to a vendor called Certified Payments.
Amy Schuknecht also asked staff to collect $150 for a late Christmas advertisement from the Lynn County News (noting $10 per person). The court received no public comments during the public-comment period.
Commissioner John Hawthorne moved to adjourn at 9:56 a.m.; Commissioner Tate Gass seconded and the motion carried.
