Morgan County Commission revises precinct boundaries and moves several voting centers ahead of May 19 primary

The resolution cites the Code of Alabama (§§ 17-6-2 and 17-6-4) as authority for establishing precinct boundaries and designating voting places. The minutes incorporate detailed legal descriptions and nine exhibits that define the new boundaries for affected precincts and voting centers. Key changes recorded in the minutes include: moving Precinct 3-11’s voting center from Carrie Matthews Recreation Center to St. James Cumberland Presbyterian Church (920 W. Moulton St., Decatur), and moving Precinct 4-3’s voting center from Point Mallard Event Center to Point Mallard Grill (2600 Point Mallard Dr. SE, Decatur). Several other precinct boundary revisions and voting-center confirmations were adopted and recorded in the exhibits attached to the resolution.
The commission instructed the county engineer to maintain and provide up-to-date maps showing the revised precinct boundaries to the Morgan County Board of Registrars, the probate judge and the Alabama Joint Legislative Task Force on Reapportionment, and directed the Chief Administrative Officer to file the resolution for the publication required by statute. The motion was offered by Commissioner Jeff Clark, seconded by Commissioner Greg Abercrombie, and adopted unanimously.
The county’s action centralizes the precinct changes in advance of the May primary; voters affected by boundary and voting-center moves should receive official notice through the Board of Registrars and required public filings.
