Commission approves lease extension with USDA for Ag Extension building; rent rises

Miss Leverett, presenting the item, said the county currently collects $16 per square foot for base, shell and operations and that the proposed new amount over the next five years will be $31 per square foot. "So the annual rent will be $155,899.08," Leverett said, adding that this represents an increase of $75,258.98 per year compared with the current arrangement.
A commissioner moved to extend the lease and another seconded; the motion passed with no opposition voiced. The county will receive the higher annual rent if the executed contract reflects the terms presented at the meeting.
The commission record in the meeting did not include the underlying lease document or detail on obligations for maintenance, utilities or escalation clauses; those are to be handled in the lease execution by the county administrator.
