Morgan County Commission approves resolutions on EV chargers, facilities, hires and contracts

The Morgan County Commission on Feb. 24 unanimously approved a package of routine resolutions and contract actions covering infrastructure, personnel and county expenditures.
Among the actions, commissioners authorized a Memorandum of Understanding with Decatur Utilities to place two electric vehicle charging stations in a county‑owned parking lot on Ire Street, across from the Morgan County Courthouse. The commission also approved facility and equipment work: a $23,969 quote from Southern Style Barns and Fencing to build a post‑frame barn and lean‑to at the District 3 shop and a $13,000 quote from M & V, LLC to replace the split gas heating and cooling system with a Trane split gas/electric system at the District 1 office. All motions were adopted with unanimous votes.
The commission approved an annual $4,500 agreement with EasyVote Solutions, to be paid from the FY2026 election budget, on behalf of Probate Judge Greg Cain. It also approved filling personnel positions (Assessment Clerk, Groundskeeper and Seasonal Groundskeeper), the rehire of Jeneen Roden under county policy, and the retirement of Bobby Joe Smith from the Department of Human Resources Board with Joe Bailey appointed to complete the term through Sept. 13, 2029.
The board declared several pieces of equipment surplus — including a 1996 Dresser El520C wheel loader, a 1989 Clark military forklift and a 1992 Hyster forklift — and authorized sale via GovDeals or proper disposal. The commission also approved tourism promotion contracts totaling $2,000 across three recipients and voted to pay invoices totaling $354,032.29, which included courthouse renovation charges noted in the packet.
Motions were typically moved by individual commissioners (for example, Jeff Clark moved the newsletter printing resolution; Matthew Frost moved the barn and surplus resolutions) and seconded by fellow commissioners; every listed resolution was adopted unanimously by the five commissioners present. The meeting adjourned following completion of the agenda.
The commission’s next meeting is set for March 10 at the Decatur Morgan Tourism office.
