Parks director outlines Catfish Festival, paddle event and new boat rental service

"It's our 25th annual Catfish Festival, and that'll start at 8AM at the park," Parish said, describing roughly 50 vendors, a car show expecting more than 100 cars, children’s fishing areas, pony rides and free admission. Parish said KC's Barbecue and Coca‑Cola will provide food and refreshments and that live music will be sponsored by KC's.
He also described an inaugural paddle event set for June 20 that will begin at 9:00 a.m., use rented kayak fleets to provide equipment and life jackets for beginners, and include safety staffing from EMTs and the sheriff’s office.
Parish said Islands Boat Rental officially began activity April 15 and started rentals May 1, offering boats, kayaks, canoes and golf carts; the business has already taken calls for reservations and will promote at upcoming festivals. On environmental operations, Parish said eelgrass harvesting has begun, a roll‑off dumpster is positioned at Sportsman's Landing to collect vegetation, and there have been few complaints to date.
Commissioners thanked Parish for the updates. No formal county action was requested or taken at this item.
