Kingston board accepts budget and election results, approves inspectors replacement and several policies; athletics donation accepted

The Kingston City School District Board of Education voted to accept the district’s budget and the results of the recent board election and approved a series of routine measures at its public meeting.

Chair (speaker 3) called for a motion to accept B89, the board of education election and budget results; the motion was seconded and the board approved the measure by voice vote. The chair recognized trustees sworn in that evening and noted remaining newly elected trustees will be sworn at the July reorganization meeting.

The board also considered and approved resolution B90, described by the chair as a measure on the replacement of additional inspectors. “All in favor of B90?” the chair asked; the board voice‑voted the resolution approved.

On policy matters, the board carried second‑reading votes on three policies. Policy 22‑10 (board organizational meeting) passed following a motion from the policy committee; policy 5162 (student dismissal precautions) was approved after committee discussion; and policy 5220 (student expression) was updated to change references from “publications” to language reflecting current practice. Policy chair (speaker 9) said the next policy day is scheduled for June 5.

During the consent agenda, trustees accepted a donation to the district’s athletics department from 2019 KHS alumnus and professional baseball player Fritz Genther: a batting cage and related equipment, installed at Gruner Field, valued at $13,160. The board expressed thanks and noted the equipment will be available for athletics practice.

The meeting included routine committee and facilities reports and concluded with member announcements and a motion to adjourn.
