Alisa Beck, identifying herself as a board member of the Alabama River Foundation, asked the commission for $15,000 to support the Riverfront Rendezvous, a two‑day educational event on the Alabama River scheduled for July 7–8. Beck said the event served more than 350 children, parents and counselors in 2025 and that the foundation expects about 600 attendees this year. The programming described includes a floating classroom on a U.S. Coast Guard‑certified vessel, wildlife demonstrations, water‑safety training, and partnerships with local organizations including the Boys & Girls Club of the River Region and Montgomery Fire Rescue.
Commissioners asked Beck to provide the nonprofit paperwork and a budget; staff and commissioners suggested additional grant sources (Mid South RC&D) and encouraged coordination with city partners. Beck said the foundation has discussed in‑kind support from the city and will submit the requested documentation to staff.
