Johnston County accepts 308‑acre Rosedary Park donation from Triangle Land Conservancy

Johnston County commissioners voted May 18 to accept a gift of about 308 acres for Rosedary Park from the Triangle Land Conservancy and authorized the county manager to sign any remaining documents to complete the transfer.
Adrian O'Neil presented the request and thanked Triangle Land Conservancy and county staff for completing paperwork and coordination. O'Neil said the project has been years in the making and asked the board to accept the property on behalf of the county and to authorize the county manager to execute additional documents if necessary.
Commissioners asked about due diligence; O'Neil said environmental checks were completed during the conservancy’s phase of the transaction. Commissioners praised the partnership and noted the county has preserved roughly 1,750 acres through similar work since 2018, with additional acreage proposed in the current budget. One commissioner described the county’s partnership with the conservancy as a strong return on investment for park and open space preservation.
The motion to accept the property and grant execution authority to the manager passed by voice vote. County staff will complete any closing steps and return necessary documents to the county manager for signature.
