Desert Hot Springs City Council on Tuesday adopted two resolutions to place Desert Valley Disposal (DVD) charges on the FY 2026–27 county property tax roll, after brief public hearings that drew no speakers.
City staff and a DVD representative described the first resolution as the annual assessment of residential waste-collection charges. According to the presentation, DVD requested $607,120.70 to be placed on the tax roll covering roughly 8,190 residential accounts; city staff said this amount would be collected with property taxes as an assessment on the properties. "This charge will constitute an assessment on the properties and will be paid with the property taxes," said Chris, identified in the meeting as a representative with Desert Valley Disposal.
The second resolution would place delinquent disposal billings on the tax roll. Staff reported the company requested $240,432.38 representing 169 delinquent accounts. No members of the public addressed the council on either item.
Both resolutions were moved and seconded on the dais and approved unanimously. Council member Pai announced a comment had been received from Brad Anderson of Rancho Mirage, but Anderson did not speak at the hearing. "We did get a comment from Brad Anderson who lives in Rancho Mirage," Pai said during the deliberations.
The council took no amendments or separate votes on individual accounts; both actions were adopted as presented. The chair closed the hearings and the motions passed with unanimous support from the members present (Council members Gardner, Pitts, Pai and Mayor Mattis; Mayor Pro Tem Voss was absent).
The council briefly announced upcoming commission meetings — the council expects to be at full strength June 2, with the planning commission scheduled for June 9 and the public safety commission for June 11 — and then adjourned.
Next steps: The resolutions direct the county to place the specified DVD assessment amounts on the FY 2026–27 tax rolls; the council did not discuss implementation details, billing schedules, or appeals processes during the hearing.
