Cultural affairs staff report progress on public-art projects, map and restorations

Parker Rechy Johns reported that five of 10 AMP Gateway cabinets have been completed and that artists will continue painting through May into June; the project remains on schedule and within budget. He also noted progress on artist-fabricated panels for a mosaic mural and that the Arts District Garage Mural contract is close to execution.
Mary Sabo described conservation work and inventory efforts: routine cleaning with RLA Conservation, graffiti abatement in the Arts District, slate repair on the Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Memorial, and restoration work on the Snowball cat sculpture with artist Jesse Smingle; Snowball is deinstalled for repairs and scheduled for reinstallation in early to mid-June. Parker also announced that artist Luis Ferrelarico has signed the contract for an environmental sculpture at Hualapai Canyon Trailhead, with a kickoff meeting scheduled next month.
Staff said an interactive public-art map is now available on the city website, credited in the transcript to Kimberly Pulido and the city IT department; the Civic Center Gallery and other exhibitions (including '6 Ways of Seeing' through June 18 and 'Rhythm and Resilience: Black Vegas' through Aug. 20) were highlighted, with the Civic Center Gallery expanding Saturday hours in June.
Board members asked procedural clarifications: Commissioner Sapira confirmed the Art in Public Places call is open nationally but requires out-of-state applicants to cover shipping costs. Staff said final project designs and contract work will be shared at upcoming meetings as items reach milestones.
Staff invited commissioners and the public to receptions and encouraged artists to apply for call-for-artists opportunities.
