Trenton council approves appointments, grants, receipts and finances; mayor records one abstention

At its May 18 meeting the Trenton City Council completed a package of routine administrative and financial actions.
Appointment: Mayor Stephen Ruzappa asked for concurrence to appoint Michelle Tanguay to the Downtown Development Authority for a term expiring May 1, 2029. The motion to approve the appointment was moved and supported; on the roll call the mayor recorded an abstention and the motion carried.
Court receipts: Councilman Benedetti placed on file the 30th District Court fines, costs and fees for April 2026 showing Trenton received $11,819.43; the council voted to place the report on file.
Land use referral: City attorney presented a petition by Anthony Mazzella to divide Lots 459 and 460 (Parcel 54‑015‑03‑0460‑000), for properties at 2801–2833 West Jefferson; council referred the petition to the planning commission for review and recommendation.
Grant approval: The DDA recommended and council approved a business improvement reimbursement grant for 2644 West Jefferson in the amount of $10,147. The DDA noted the grant is reimbursement-based and the project is expected to be completed in fall 2026, which will put the reimbursement in the FY 2026–27 budget.
Finance and disbursements: Mayor pro tem/councilwoman Hornbeck moved to approve authorized disbursements for May 18, 2026 in the amount of $3,286,192.24 and to accept the April 30, 2026 financial summary; council approved the items unanimously.
The council also approved routine minutes from the May 4 meeting and other commission minutes and reports listed on the agenda. There were no public comments recorded during the meeting and the council adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
