Monroe County approves opioid-settlement awards for local recovery programs

The board adopted Motion M-2026-128, carrying allocations that included $17,325 to Verde/Dettara to purchase 2,500 medicine disposal packets; $10,000 to Northbound & Company for program technical assistance and contract support; $13,478.08 to We Have a Choice Recovery House for Men, LLC (Justin’s House) to purchase items to assist clients; $73,901 (91% of the funding request) to AMZ Housing Solutions for purchase of a vehicle to transport opioid clients; and $4,284 to Kudu Creative for assorted items tied to the LETI program for Community Night. The board also approved a small budget adjustment ($7,765) and authorized county property use for the Pocono Pride Festival on June 7, 2026.
Chairman John D. Christy and Commissioner Sharon S. Laverdure led the approval; Vice-Chairman David C. Parker seconded and the motion carried. The action also authorized the chief clerk to advertise Requests for Funding Proposal (RFPs) for the Homeless Assistance Program (HAP) and the Human Services Development Fund (HSDF) and a Request For Proposals for drug, alcohol and counseling services at the Monroe County Correctional Facility.
Public commenter Theresa Pesce asked for confirmation that the opioid awards were funded from Opioid Settlement Funds; Chairman Christy confirmed that was the case.
Next steps: the county will proceed with executing the awards and posting the authorized RFP notices. No timeline for disbursement beyond contract language was specified in the meeting record.
