CCAC shortens chair term for this election, elects Tara as chair; new officers named

The Frederick County Special Education Citizens Advisory Committee voted at its May 20 meeting to suspend its rules for this election and shorten the chair term to one year. The motion to suspend the rules was moved by a committee member and seconded by Claudia; the presiding chair, Jamie Shoplin, called the vote and announced the motion carried.
Following the suspension, the committee used paper ballots for contested officer races. The chair race was reported as 14 votes for Tara and 5 votes for Zoey. The chair announced that Lauren Schillinger will serve as vice chair, Laura O'Neil will remain secretary and Chris Griffin will assume the treasurer role.
Committee members discussed the motion before the vote; proponents said the temporary change would bring officer terms into an alternating cycle that better aligns with the bylaws. No formal motion to amend the bylaws was recorded at the meeting; the suspension applied only to this election.
The committee also approved minutes from its April 20 meeting earlier in the session (the chair reported 17 in favor with one exemption). The meeting adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
What happens next: the newly elected officers will assume their roles immediately for the coming year and CCAC officers indicated they will continue outreach and planning over the summer ahead of the next school year.
