Lake Forest previews America 250 events and highlights youth art winners

City officials and volunteers previewed Lake Forest’s America 250 celebrations at the May 18 council meeting and the Deerpath Art League presented its Emerging Artist awards.
Ara Gosh Gurion, introduced on the agenda as chairman of the resident advisory group, described community outreach and a week-long slate of events to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. “As we all know, this is the 200 and fiftieth celebration of our country's birth,” Gosh Gurion said, and he urged residents to watch for a mailed postcard and the city website for event details.
Highlights on the calendar include a July 2 Market Square concert with a new “Bites on Bank” vendor showcase of about 15 local food purveyors, a ticketed farm-style dinner with limited seating at Elowa Farm, an enhanced July 4 program at Deerpath with a longer fireworks display and live music, and a July Sunday ice-cream social run with the American Legion. Mike Wick, director of Parks and Recreation, told residents the city’s event page (cityoflakeforest.com/america2fifty) is the best source for tickets and details and warned that some ticket prices rise on June 20.
Separately, Rosalind Doan, executive director of the Deerpath Art League, presented the 19th annual Emerging Artist mayoral awards and read a list of participating schools and student winners; the installation displays nearly 175 young artists across Market Square storefronts. Doan invited students under 18 to apply for the city’s art fair scheduled for September 2026.
The council did not take formal votes on the celebration schedule at the meeting; staff and volunteers will proceed with event logistics and ticket sales.
