Council issues commendations, confirms appointments and refers accessory-building regulation update

At its May 19 meeting the Common Council adopted resolutions honoring Aldermen Bill Carnell and Jerry Mellone for their years of service and leadership. The council also designated The Waukesha Freeman as the city’s official newspaper for 2026–2027 (Resolution No. 11577-26).
Council approved a slate of appointments to advisory bodies by resolution, including appointments to the Administrative Appeals Board, Board of Zoning Appeals, Information Technology Subcommittee, Police & Fire Commission and Economic Development Committee. Separately, the council approved, by motion and recorded vote 13–0, the appointment of Mark Nelson to the Ethics Board to fulfill a term expiring September 7, 2027 (Resolution No. 11583-26).
The Mayor reported legislative referrals and requests for services and specifically referred an update to Section 15.04.420 (residential accessory building regulations) to the Legislative & Licensing Committee at the request of Alderman Mike Hallquist; the referral covers topics including landscaping requirements, base materials and anchoring for yard maintenance buildings, gazebos, greenhouses and a proposed 120-square-foot size limit.
