The Lake Central School Corporation board received an update May 18 on the district’s English learner program showing 442 active English learners and 109 students in monitoring.
Director of student services (Mrs. Grama) told trustees she left a building-level breakdown at each board member’s station showing active students and students in monitoring (students who have tested out of the program remain in monitoring for two years). She said Spanish is the most common language in the district’s English learner population, followed by Serbian and Arabic; several languages are spoken by only one student.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the language breakdown and monitoring rules. The presentation was informational; no action was taken.
Administrators characterized the distribution as a testament to the district’s teachers and support systems and invited additional questions or requests for follow-up information.
