Dozens of Lake Central School Corporation students and their teachers were honored at the May 18 board meeting for academic competitions, service projects and athletics.
Assistant Superintendent Castaneda and multiple principals called students and staff to the front to recognize achievements: Proxman/Proxima Elementary was named an outstanding Best Buddies chapter and raised funds to send a veteran on an Honor Flight; Crossman, Koehling, Bibich and Watson elementaries reported Math Stars and Word Masters national placements and several students who earned perfect scores; Grimmer Middle School’s "We the People" team and chess club were recognized, and Lake Central High School students were honored for FCCLA state medals and Academic Super Bowl placings.
Board members and administrators praised teachers, PTOs and volunteers. Several principals named students individually and described the selection criteria (for example, Math Stars selections were based on iLearn checkpoint scores). The board also took photos and extended congratulations from trustees.
The recognitions occupied a large portion of the meeting’s opening business, and board members noted the district’s strong student performance across academics and extracurricular programs.
