After budget clarifications from staff and discussion about HRC participation requirements, the commission approved the full $2,000 sponsorship with the condition of HRC participation in planning or promotion.
The commission also approved a $500 sponsorship to Turning Tides Foundation, a newly formed nonprofit that produces multicultural music events and a September 19 multicultural folk festival. Commissioners reduced that request from the full ask because of biennial budget constraints and asked for clarity on timing and event logistics.
Finally, the commission approved a $1,000 sponsorship for Queer Eugene (event May 29); commissioners discussed sponsorship tiers and ensured at least one commissioner would volunteer to attend and tabling would be available.
Staff reminded commissioners the HRC has a $20,000 biennial sponsorship budget; commissioners asked for a full biennium forecast at a future meeting to better match commitments to planned events.
Votes and procedure: motions to approve each sponsorship were made, seconds recorded and ayes called on each motion. Staff noted participation requirements tied to higher sponsorship tiers and will confirm logistics with recipients.
