Mayor Laurie Goodrich proclaimed March 21, 2026 as "Save Soil Day" at the Coralville City Council meeting on March 10.
Romy Lodh, a volunteer with Conscious Planet, thanked the council for the proclamation and described the Safe Soil movement as a citizen-led effort to restore cultivable topsoil and improve nutrition and food security. Lodh said the movement brings together scientists, farmers, governments and everyday people and highlighted local and international outreach including a Horn Elementary exhibit planned for March 12, university screenings and community events. Lodh urged residents to "visit safesoil.org and take one small action" noting that restoring soil organic matter can reverse nutritional decline and help food production.
The proclamation is symbolic recognition of soil health efforts and the city committed to raising awareness through events and programming.
