The Powell County Fairgrounds Management Board on Feb. 5, 2026, approved a revised groundskeeper position description and reviewed maintenance priorities ahead of several spring events.
Board members voted to accept the groundskeeper job description with wording changes requested by Board Member Dayna Gilman to clarify that the Event Coordinator will "coordinate with" the groundskeeper rather than supervise the position, consistent with the board's by-laws. The position is paid $800 per month; Tony Stoddard moved to accept the revised description and Dale Perkins seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Event Coordinator Kelley Knight presented a comprehensive maintenance and safety inventory and listed immediate needs: adding three or four AEDs to remain on fairgrounds property, scheduling a panel-setup work party for Feb. 15, 2026, and pursuing a skid-steer via Equipment Share. Knight said High School Rodeo events are scheduled for March 27 and April 3 and raised concerns about whether the sewer lines can handle the events. Dale Perkins agreed to check pricing for additional port-a-potties.
Other items on the maintenance list included replacing curtain and shower rods, installing rubber kitchen mats, repairing rope on a kitchen ladder, adding wheels for rolling hoses, applying a yellow safety strip to the outside of the kitchen platform, replacing lights in the mechanic room, and disposing of the office trailer's ice machine and couch.
The board discussed longer-term facility questions, including whether to invest further in the on-site trailer house or replace it and whether to acquire storage containers (the group discussed buying at least three, with the purchase possibly funded from outlay). Tony Stoddard said he is contacting salvage companies regarding the grandstand and other salvageable items. Board members noted the tractor is at John Deere in Missoula for repair and that Reed from RDO will pick up the groomer for repair.
The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
