Daviess County aviation board reelected officers, reviews fuel revenue and plans diesel tank purchase

The Daviess County Board of Aviation Commissioners met Jan. 8 at the county airport terminal and reelected its officers, reviewed year-end operations and financials, discussed construction delays on a taxi lane and agreed to purchase a new diesel tank.
President David Gray called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. and commissioners David Gray, Matt Merold and Bernie Harner were present, along with Bob Grewe, representing Daviess County Economic Development, and Nick Kolwalkoski of Woolpert Engineering. The board approved the minutes from the December meeting on a motion by Commissioner Matt Merold, seconded by Commissioner Bernie Harner.
Airport Manager Erica Burkemper presented the monthly manager’s report. She said December fuel sales continued to increase, producing year-end fuel revenue of $302,489.11, which she noted was $34,417.40 less than 2024. Burkemper also reported that Hangar B is now available after the stored jet moved to Hangar E, the farmland lease with Boyd Grain was fully executed, Mason’s Private Locating completed utility-line locating work that took roughly 12 days, and DBT completed the quarterly AWOS inspection. She reported $150,174.21 was returned to the airport’s general operating account.
Nick Kolwalkoski delivered the engineering update and told the board Woolpert had prepared a letter to E & B Paving to express the board’s frustration over delays completing the taxi lane and access road. The board discussed documentation and next steps for submitting materials to the Federal Aviation Administration; Bob Grewe said he would update the pre-purchase agreement and prepare documents for Woolpert to submit for FAA review, and the board agreed to move the related purchase date to the fall.
The board held officer elections for the 2026 operating year. Commissioner Bernie Harner moved to reelect David Gray as board president, which passed on a second by Commissioner Matt Merold. Harner then moved to reelect Matt Merold as vice president, seconded by President David Gray, and the motion passed. Harner also moved to reelect Chris Kimball as secretary; Commissioner Matt Merold seconded and the motion passed.
On procurement and maintenance items, the board agreed to purchase a 300-gallon double-walled diesel tank from Premier Ag and have Premier Ag supply fuel; Burkemper will open the account and arrange placement. The board also discussed replacement options for Hangar H’s furnace and directed Burkemper to contact Kingdom Air to schedule the replacement.
During new-business discussion Burkemper said a tenant representative requested clarification about required insurance language in the hangar rental agreement; she said she will consult the county attorney and report back.
With no further comments, Commissioner Matt Merold moved to adjourn at 11:10 a.m.; Commissioner Bernie Harner seconded and the meeting was adjourned. The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 12 at 10:00 a.m.
