Commissioners approve $85,000 MDT right‑of‑way spray contract for FY27

The Flathead County Board of Commissioners voted to approve the Montana Department of Transportation right‑of‑way noxious‑weed spray agreement for fiscal year 2027 at its May 12 meeting.
Chris Mestis, representing Flathead County Weed, Parks & Recreation, told the board the contract is the usual annual MDT spray agreement but the revenue line was adjusted to $85,000 from $75,000 in prior years to reflect increased spray costs. "That amount was increased from $75,000 a few years ago to account for increased spray costs," Mestis said. He asked for the board’s approval so crew spray work may begin when FY27 starts in July.
Commissioner [mover] moved the document for signature; a second was recorded and the motion carried on a voice vote.
Why it matters: The contract funds work to control noxious weeds on MDT rights of way and contributes to the Weed District’s contract revenue for FY27. The contract is consistent with prior years aside from the adjusted dollar amount listed for FY27.
