Board honors retirees, district communications officer and student achievements

The Fairfield County School District board began its May 19 meeting with a series of recognitions for district staff and students.
Superintendent Presley and board members recognized 27 retirees who together represent more than 473 years of service to the district. Presley asked Dr. Campbell to coordinate the reception and noted the district’s appreciation for the retirees’ contributions.
The board also highlighted a communications award: the South Carolina chapter of the National School Public Relations Association recognized Jalen Copeland, the district’s public information officer, with a 2026 awards-for-excellence honor for a video titled "20 years of leadership honoring board chair Henry Miller." "The board of trustees and myself, congratulate Mister Copeland on this outstanding achievement and continued commitment to telling the story of Fairfield County School District," Presley said.
Other honors included Dr. Brandon Dixon’s recognition as a 2026 middle school principal award recipient from the South Carolina Alliance of Black School Educators and Palmetto Gold and Silver awards for district schools. The board also recognized Fairfield Middle regional science fair winners and orchestra superior ratings, and presented the first AVID graduating cohort from Fairfield Central High School.
The recognitions concluded before the meeting moved into minutes, reports and action items.
