Beardstown council rejects tentative contract with UFCW Local 431 after executive session

Alderperson Ron Culves moved, and Alderperson Lisa Buhlig seconded, "That the tentative agreement UFCW Local 431 between the City of Beardstown and United Food & Commercial Workers District Local 431 representing the Public Works and City Hall Employees be approved." The motion failed by roll call 5-1. The vote was Yea: Alderperson Dawn Seward; No: Alderpersons Lisa Buhlig, Ron Culves, Eric Harbin and Keith Schramm; Abstain: Alderperson Mary Davis. Ald. Chris Baer and Shawn Taylor were absent.
The council had entered executive session at 6:33 p.m. under Exemption 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(2) for collective bargaining and resumed regular session at 7:22 p.m., then took the vote. The executive-session motion to meet in closed session was moved by Alderperson Ron Culves and seconded by Alderperson Keith Schramm and passed 6-0.
The rejected tentative agreement was described in the motion as covering Public Works and City Hall employees and was presented for approval immediately after the executive session. No additional terms of the tentative agreement were read into the public record during the resumed session.
The council adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
